Tune in to The Rock to hear Roy D. Mercer
week days at “about” 9am
and on your drive home at 5:50pm!
Let's face it, life can be aggravating. Service people
who leave their customer unserviced. Repairmen who don't make repairs.
Products that disappoint. Appliances that break. Food that makes you
sick. Movies that stink. People that just plain get on your last dadgummed
nerve. You can get mad. You can get ticked off. Or, if you're Roy D.
Mercer, you can pick up the telephone, call an unsuspecting victim,
and throw a ranting, raving, hellacious, full-throttle fit. He's been
doing it for years. And he's not about to let up now.
Thanks to an unshakable belief in his own warped convictions
and the faithful support of his oddball family, this miseducated son
of working-class nobodies, with no discernible talent, has sweet-talked
his way to the top of Billboard's Comedy Charts. Roy D. is the heart
and soul and number one agitator of the extended and horrifically dysfunctional
Mercer clan. Born yelpin' and squallin' with his fists doubled up and
ready for a fight, Roy D. was destined to become one of the world's
greatest ass whuppers. Not a day was spent on the playground that Roy
D. didn't get into some kind of scrap. He spent most of his school career
in and out of the principal's office, where he learned to shoot craps
and operate a CB radio. He made his mama and daddy proud when he graduated
fifth in his class of 13.
It seems that everyone is out to get the Mercer family-the
utility company, the veterinarian, the x-ray technician, the cemetery
and the travel agency. The Mercer family is subject to all sorts of
myriad mishaps and random persecutions, and it's up to Roy D. to settle
the score. Thus begins another tirade of twisted, trailer park trash
talk.
Roy D. was discovered when a homemade tape of his temper
tantrums was heard by Nashville record executive Scott Hendricks. Hendricks
immediately signed Roy D. to a recording contract at Capitol Records.
In August 1998, Scott was named President and CEO of Virgin Records
Nashville and signed Roy D. for a second time. For three years, Roy
D. Mercer has been the unlikeliest name in the Top-Ten of Billboard's
Comedy Charts, in the company of heavyweights like Adam Sandler, Jerry
Seinfeld and Jeff Foxworthy. The combined sales of Roy's six albums
are now over 2 million units.
Thanks to another mobile home companion, Billy Bob
Thornton, Roy D. is poised to hit the big time. A long-time fan, Billy
Bob wooed Roy D. into a role in his upcoming movie, "Daddy and
Them". Roy D. plays himself-what else could he possibly play? -among
a cast that includes Thorton, Laura Dern, Kelly Preston, Diane Ladd,
Ben Affleck, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brenda Blethyn and Andy Griffith. The
movie is scheduled for release this year. In addition, Roy is working
on a number of new ventures sure to introduce him to a whole new group
of fans, some of which include a book, a line of Roy D. Mercer merchandise,
a television show, and his next album, "Roy D. Mercer vs. The Yankees",
where he takes on his northern neighbors with hilarious results.
Once thing is for certain: Roy D. is just getting started.
It don't matter how big a boy ya are. Get ready for an ass whuppin'!
